You are reading Today’s Daily Guide Devotional for Wednesday 28 April 2021. May the entrance of His word give you Light and Understanding.

TOPIC: BE PERSISTENT (Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th April 2021)

Opening Prayer: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Scripture: Matthew 15:21-28

Question(s) for Reflection:
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

SCRIPTURE UNION (SU) DAILY GUIDE 28TH APRIL 2021 TODAY’S OUTLINE:

Jesus shifted his ministry to new areas as the need arose. In the district of Tyre and Sidon, a Canaanite woman approached him for help. Note the woman’s humility and persistent faith (v.25-28). She faced various challenges but did not allow any of these to discourage or dissuade her from her continuous search and plea for solution to her dear daughter’s problem. First, Jesus appeared not to hear her plea. He was silent.

Saints over the ages have been faced with situations when God seemed silent. See Psalm 28:1 for an example. Many people have missed their blessings because they quit praying too quickly. They could not hear or see God acting on their behalf, and at their rate and pace. Jesus urged us to keep seeking, keep asking and keep knocking (Matthew 7:7-8). This pagan woman understood this principle.

The disciples’ objection could have discouraged anyone but not this woman. Sometimes listening to the voices of fellow believers rather than what God says may discourage us from waiting on God. Jesus’ initial response (v.26) can be readily misunderstood. Even that possibility did not change her focus. We also must fight against all odds and persist in prayer until we receive our blessings.

Practice/Word Application:
• And So? God commends our faith when we focus on Him and not on any seeming or even real obstacles.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
• P.U.S.H – Pray Until Something Happens. Refuse to be discouraged.
• Pray for the Church to spend money in a way that will best honour God.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
• Num. 3-4; Rev. 15
