TOPIC: TAKE COURAGE! IT IS I, DON’T BE AFRAID Scripture Union (SU) Daily Guide 25th April 2021 – The Compassionate Jesus

Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scriptures: Matthew 14:22-36

Question(s) for Reflection:
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

SCRIPTURE UNION (SU) DAILY GUIDE 26TH APRIL 2021 STUDY:

Prayer was a very important part of Jesus’ lifestyle. Here He prays after the miracle of feeding the five thousand and before walking on the water (see v.23a and Mark 1:35). What was the situation of the disciples on the lake (v.24)? It is worth noting that the disciples were doing exactly what Jesus instructed them to do yet the storm came. But Jesus was in control. He came to their rescue.

Note the disciples’ reaction in v.26 and Jesus’ prompt assuring words (v.27). Thank God for the courage of Peter, and the many lessons his life teaches us. At the Lord’s command and in response to his request, Peter stepped out of the boat. We don’t know how many steps he took before fear took over but at least he experienced what others did not. If we will step out in faith out of the ‘boat’, we too will experience great miracles in our lives.

When Jesus climbed into the boat, the situation changed (v 32). Note the result of this experience on the disciples in v.33. Do you know Jesus as the great Rescuer, Saviour and God?

Practice/Word Application:
• Meditation: With Jesus in the boat I can smile at the storm… (Song)

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
• Dear Lord, help me to always remember that with you by my side, all is well no matter the storms of life.
• Pray for the activities of interdenominational Christian fellowships – OFNC, ACF etc. – in their ministry to foreigners
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
• Eccle. 10-12; Rev. 13

Thank you for reading Today’s Scripture Union (SU) Daily Guide 26th April 2021. God bless you!
