Daily Gospel Reflections for 12th May 2022 Thursday

Topic: Slaves of Christ

When Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, he said to them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.” John 13:16

If we read between the lines we can hear Jesus telling us two things. First, that it’s good to see ourselves as slaves and messengers of God, and second, that we are to always give the glory to God. These are important points to live in the spiritual life. Let’s look at both.

Normally, the idea of being a “slave” is not all that desirable. We are not as familiar with slavery in our day and age, but it is real and has caused extreme damage throughout the history of our world in many cultures and at many times. The worst part about slavery is the cruelty with which the slaves are treated. They are treated as objects and property which is completely contrary to their human dignity.

But imagine the scenario where a person is a slave to one who loves him perfectly and has as his primary mission to help that “slave” realize his true potential and fulfillment in life. In this case, the master would “command” the slave to embrace love and happiness and would never violate his human dignity.

This is the way it is with God. We should never fear the idea of being a slave of God. Though this language may carry baggage from abuses of human dignity of the past, slavery to God should be our goal. Why? Because God is the one we should want as our master. In fact, we should desire God as our master even more than we desire to be our own master.

God will treat us better than we treat ourselves! He will dictate to us a perfect life of holiness and happiness and we will be humbly submissive to His divine will. And what’s more, He will give us the necessary means to achieve all that He dictates to us if we let Him. Being a “slave of God” is a good thing and should be our goal in life.

As we grow in our ability to let God take control of our life, we must also regularly enter into an attitude of thanks and praise of God for all that He does in us. We must point all the glory to Him for letting us share in His mission and for being sent by Him to fulfill His will. He is greater in every way, but He also wants us to share in that greatness and glory.

So, the good news is that when we glorify and thank God for all He does in us and for all the dictates of His law and His commands, we will be elevated by God to participate in and share in His glory! This is one fruit of the Christian life that blesses us beyond what we could ever come up with ourselves.

Reflect, today, upon letting yourself become a complete slave of God and His will today. That commitment will start you down a path of tremendous delight.

My Lord and Master, I submit myself to Your every command. May Your will be done in me and only Your will. I choose You as my Master in all things and trust in Your perfect love for me. Jesus, I trust in You.

TODAY’S DAILY BIBLE VERSE AND PRAYER 24 APRIL 2022 SUNDAY

BIBLE VERSE FOR APRIL 24, 2022
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 2 Peter 1:19, NIV

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord God, we thank you for giving us light here on earth, where it is so often completely dark. But in the darkness the name of Jesus Christ shines out as the prophetic Word: “Be comforted. After darkness comes light, after night comes day!” We thank you for this light. In joy we thank you, for we have experienced that Jesus lives and comes to meet each one, bringing victory over enemy powers.

In the name of Jesus Christ and in his name alone we ask you to remember the needs of our time. We do not want anything that comes from ourselves. We do not want any earthly peace. We want your peace, Lord God, the peace in which everything becomes new, born anew even in suffering, to the eternal glory of your name. Amen.

TODAY’S SEEDS OF DESTINY DEVOTIONAL 22 APRIL 2022

TOPIC: DEALING WITH THE TRAP OF DEPRESSION

SCRIPTURE: A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17:22.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Depression is doorway to destruction. Depression is doorway to dryness.

Seeds of Destiny Devotional 22 April 2022 | SOD Message:

It has been confirmed that depression is doorway to destruction.

Depression happens when a person sees no reason to be happy. A depressed person is sad all the time. Depression is doorway to dryness.

Proverbs 17:22 says:
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

A depressed heart dries up the bones, and the bone is the centre for life. The red blood cells are manufactured in the bone marrow. If the bone is drying up, it means life is going. That is why you cannot be cast down and be healthy (Psalms 42:11). Depression is an attack on health. It is a medical condition.

The solution to depression is a merry heart. There is reason to be merry. The fact that you are alive is a reason to be happy (Psalms 150:6).

You fight depression by saturating your environment with joy tonics (Isaiah 61:3). Saturate your environment with excitement. The fact is, whenever you are weighed down, you are slowed down. When you are weighed down, you are tied down. So refuse to be weighed down. Refuse to be tied down. Fight depression.

Remember this: Depression is doorway to destruction. Depression is doorway to dryness.

ASSIGNMENTS: Dunamis Seeds of Destiny 22nd April 2022

1. Pray in the Spirit abundantly; the Holy Ghost triggers joy that swallows up depression.
2. Choose to be joyful despite what your environment throws at you; being joyful is a choice.
3. Make demands on God for the grace to stay joyful.

PRAYER: Lord, I curse every root of depression in my life. I make the choice to be happy, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: THE TRAPS (DEVICES) OF THE ENEMY.

QUOTE: Do not open the door of depression for the devil. I have seen many people die, just because of a life of depression. Guard your heart. Culled from “15 KINGDOM STRATEGIES FOR SURVIVAL” by Dr Paul Enenche.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Esther 2-4

AMAZING FACT: Acacia trees can warn each other of danger. They have a unique defense system. When animals like antelopes start to gobble up its leaves, the Acacia tree increases tannin production to levels that are toxic to animals. If trees can defend each other, how much more children of God who are branches of the TRUE VINE, Jesus Christ!

PROPHETIC WORD/DECLARATION: I curse the root of depression in your life today in Jesus’ Name.

DAILY GOSPEL REFLECTION FOR FRIDAY 22ND APRIL 2022

TODAY’S TOPIC: Fishing for Souls with Jesus

“Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.” So they cast it, and were not able to pull it in because of the number of fish. John 21:6

Every fisherman would love to have the experience that Jesus offered the Apostles in the passage above. The Apostles were fishing all night and caught nothing. Then, in the morning, Jesus appeared on the shore but they did not realize it was Him. He then gave them a simple command to cast their net off the right side of the boat. And they caught so many fish they could not pull them in. What an exciting catch!

This catch of fish was much more than just a favor from Jesus to help them with their work. It was highly symbolic. The central symbolism is that Jesus was giving the Apostles a new calling. They would no longer be fishing just for fish, rather, they were now to fish for souls. And the important part is that if they attempted to do this by their own efforts, they would come up empty handed. If, however, they did it at the Lord’s command, in His way, within His timing, then their efforts would provide an abundance of good fruit. More than they could ever imagine!

Daily Gospel Reflection Friday 22nd April 2022

This miracle of Jesus begins to reveal to the Apostles (and to us) the command that comes to evangelize the world. This revelation comes after His Resurrection as Jesus gives His final instructions to the Apostles to carry out His mission of salvation. We should see in this miracle our own call to spread the Good News. And we must see in this miracle the command to spread the Good News only at the command of Jesus, in His way and within His timing.

Sometimes Christians tend to come up with many “good” ideas to spread the Gospel. But the key is to humble ourselves before God and realize that we are incapable of spreading the Good News of the Gospel unless the Lord is leading the way and giving the direction. This tells us we should wait on Him and let Him speak. We must listen to His voice and respond only when He leads. Evangelization is a response to Jesus rather than something we do by our own effort. This is the central message of this miraculous event. Daily Gospel Reflection for Friday 22nd April 2022

As we continue our Easter Day celebration, it is a good time for each of us to reflect upon our own responsibility to evangelize. We all have a calling to share in this work of Jesus. It will take on different forms for each of us according to our vocation and mission. But the real question is this: “Am I responding to the call from Jesus to evangelize in the way He is directing me?” This is an important question. We should know that the particular mission Jesus gives us is not entrusted to anyone else. And He does want to use us.

Reflect, today, upon this command our Lord gave to the Apostles and hear Him speak this same command to you, calling you to “fish for souls” in accord with His holy will. Let the Lord speak to you this week and let yourself be open to His direction. God wants to use you, so make sure you let Him!

My commanding Lord, I do want to be used by You. I do want to evangelize in accord with Your will. Help me to confidently answer the call, and help me to sincerely listen to the direction You give. Use me, dear Lord, to save many souls for Your Kingdom. Jesus, I trust in You.

Gospel: John 21: 1-14
1 After this, Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. And he shewed himself after this manner.

2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas, who is called Didymus, and Nathanael, who was of Cana of Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples.  22 April 2022 Daily Mass Readings Friday

3 Simon Peter saith to them: I go a fishing. They say to him: We also come with thee. And they went forth, and entered into the ship: and that night they caught nothing.

4 But when the morning was come, Jesus stood on the shore: yet the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

5 Jesus therefore said to them: Children, have you any meat? They answered him: No.

6 He saith to them: Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find. They cast therefore; and now they were not able to draw it, for the multitude of fishes.

7 That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved, said to Peter: It is the Lord. Simon Peter, when he heard that it was the Lord, girt his coat about him, (for he was naked,) and cast himself into the sea.

8 But the other disciples came in the ship, (for they were not far from the land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

9 As soon then as they came to land, they saw hot coals lying, and a fish laid thereon, and bread.

10 Jesus saith to them: Bring hither of the fishes which you have now caught.

11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, full of great fishes, one hundred and fifty-three. And although there were so many, the net was not broken.

12 Jesus saith to them: Come, and dine. And none of them who were at meat, durst ask him: Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

13 And Jesus cometh and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish in like manner.

14 This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to his disciples, after he was risen from the dead.

APRIL 22ND, 2022 OUR DAILY BREAD TODAY | FRIDAY

TODAY’S TOPIC: GRATITUDE ON EARTH DAY

Bible in a Year: 2 Samuel 14–15; Luke 17:1–19

Key Verse: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2:15

Today’s Scripture: Genesis 2:4–10,15

Our Daily Bread 22nd April 2022 Today Insight

Ancient Hebrew literature often conveyed meaning through intentional wordplays. In Genesis 2, the Hebrew word translated “man”—’adam (Genesis 2:7) is very similar to the Hebrew word translated “ground” (vv. 5–7)—’adamah. If a modern translation attempted to capture this wordplay, it might translate “man” (’adam) as “earthling” and “ground” (’adamah) as “earth.”

By pairing these words, the passage communicates key insights into human nature. Humanity was formed from the earth or ground (v. 7) and so is intimately connected to it. But humanity was also given a unique relationship to God, who gave human beings the “breath of life” (v. 7). Formed from the earth, human beings are also those to whom creation’s care is entrusted (v. 15). By: Monica La Rose

Our Daily Bread 22nd April 2022 Today Message

Earth Day is an annual event observed on April 22. In recent years, more than one billion people in about two hundred countries have taken part in educational and service activities. Each year, Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of caring for our amazing planet. But the mandate to care for the environment is far older than this annual event—it goes all the way back to creation.

In Genesis, we learn that God created the entire universe and formed the earth as a place for humans to dwell. Not only did He fashion the mountain peaks and lush plains, God also created the garden of Eden, a beautiful place providing food, shelter, and beauty for its inhabitants (Genesis 2:8–9).

After breathing life into His most important creation, humans, God placed them in this garden (vv. 8, 22) and gave them the responsibility “to work it and take care of it” (v. 15). After Adam and Eve were expelled from the garden, caring for God’s creation became more difficult (3:17–19), but to this day God Himself cares for our planet and its creatures (Psalm 65:9–13) and asks us to do the same (Proverbs 12:10).

Whether we live in crowded cities or rural areas, we all have ways we can care for the areas God has entrusted to us. And as we tend the earth, may it be an act of gratitude to Him for this beautiful planet. By: Lisa M. Samra

Reflect: What part of creation takes your breath away? How might you care for the part of the earth God has entrusted to you?

Prayer: Creator God, You’ve entrusted to us a marvelous planet that sustains and astonishes me. Please help me to respond to Your gift by caring for it as a way to express thankfulness for Your provision.

JOEL OSTEEN DEVOTIONAL 21 APRIL 2022 DAILY MESSAGE

Today’s Topic: Immeasurable

Today’s Scripture
…so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. – Ephesians 2:7, ESV

TODAY’S JOEL OSTEEN DEVOTIONAL 21ST APRIL 2022 MESSAGE:

In another translation of today’s Scripture, the apostle Paul said that we would see “the immeasurable (limitless, surpassing) riches of His free grace (His unmerited favor).” That’s favor as we’ve never seen before. That’s how the word “explosion” is defined. It means a “sudden, widespread increase.” That’s what God wants to do for us. Suddenly. You won’t expect it. It’s out of the ordinary, and it’s not small. It’s so amazing you know it had to be the hand of God.

You may think your situation is permanent. You don’t see how you can ever rise any higher and accomplish your dreams. All the calculations are telling you that you’ll never get out of debt, but God is saying, “You need to get ready. You haven’t seen My explosive blessings. You haven’t seen the immeasurable, limitless, surpassing greatness of My favor. I will bless you beyond your normal income. I have blessings that will catapult you years ahead. I have increase that goes beyond your calculations.”

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for Your unlimited favor and supply of everything I need in this life. Thank You that I can take the limits off because I know all things are possible to You. I open my heart to You and ask You to increase my capacity to receive the riches of Your free grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

11 And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran to them to the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

12 But Peter seeing, made answer to the people: Ye men of Israel, why wonder you at this? or why look you upon us, as if by our strength or power we had made this man to walk?

13 The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus, whom you indeed delivered up and denied before the face of Pilate, when he judged he should be released.

14 But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you.

15 But the author of life you killed, whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

16 And in the faith of his name, this man, whom you have seen and known, hath his name strengthened; and the faith which is by him, hath given this perfect soundness in the sight of you all.

17 And now, brethren, I know that you did it through ignorance, as did also your rulers.

18 But those things which God before had shewed by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.

19 Be penitent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.

20 That when the times of refreshment shall come from the presence of the Lord, and he shall send him who hath been preached unto you, Jesus Christ,

21 Whom heaven indeed must receive, until the times of the restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets, from the beginning of the world.

22 For Moses said: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me: him you shall hear according to all things whatsoever he shall speak to you.

23 And it shall be, that every soul which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

24 And all the prophets, from Samuel and afterwards, who have spoken, have told of these days.

25 You are the children of the prophets, and of the testament which God made to our fathers, saying to Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.

26 To you first God, raising up his Son, hath sent him to bless you; that every one may convert himself from his wickedness.

Gospel: Luke 24: 35-48
35 And they told what things were done in the way; and how they knew him in the breaking of the bread.

36 Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.

37 But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit.

38 And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

39 See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.

40 And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet.

41 But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat?

42 And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb.

43 And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them.

44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.

46 And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day:

47 And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And you are witnesses of these things.

TODAY’S DAILY BIBLE VERSE AND PRAYER 21 APRIL 2022

BIBLE VERSE FOR APRIL 21ST, 2022
He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. Psalm 55:18, NIV

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father in heaven, grant that we may come into your presence as your children. Give to us all that we need each day, so that we are no longer caught in the turmoil of life but can receive your peace. For you care for us as your children, and we are allowed to go confidently through all the troubles of these times because our way leads to you, the eternal Father in heaven.

Keep us from going astray and from spending our efforts on what is temporal and cannot last. Let your light strengthen us in what is of heaven, in what is eternally true for our lives. Amen.
