TOPIC: SHOW CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS

TEXT: EXODUS 21:26-36

Key Verse: “And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein; The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his” Exodus 21:33,34

MESSAGE: DCLM DAILY MANNA 17TH JANUARY 2021 SUNDAY DEVOTIONAL

Often, people are consumed by the pursuit of their selfish goals, to the detriment of the interests of others. They are convinced that the end justifies the means; that if they do not protect their interests, others will simply trample them underfoot. In the event, they become unmindful of how their selfish actions affect other people. But the almighty God who is perfect in wisdom and excellent in counsel is by far more equitable and considerate than man.

Everyone matters in His sight. He would, therefore, not countenance the maltreatment of even a bond slave, or the wicked acts of a master against his paid servant. He imposed a price on anyone who treated the less fortunate very badly. Even those who neglected to put their animals under control had a price to pay were the animals to kill or injure other people, or damage other people’s property.

What others may consider as a mere act of carelessness is an offense before God. When a man forgot to cover a pit he dug and someone’s animal fell into it, or someone’s animal killed another’s, the owner of the offending animal is required to pay a reparation for the dead animal, especially if it was known that the animal had a habit of running wild without restraint from its owner.

At all times, we must observe politeness, caution and consideration in our personal relationships with others. We should not seek to exact, justify or provoke revenge from others no matter how lowly placed in life. Punishment for offenses must not be too harsh lest it becomes unfair, nor should we in the pretext of leniency justify indulgence and reckless living, lest it becomes sinful.

Thought For Today: “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.”

TOPIC: SET APART FOR GOD

Key Verse: “But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him” (Psalm 4:3).

BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 4:1-8

1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
[b]Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

2 How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood? Selah
3 But know that the Lord has [c]set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The Lord will hear when I call to Him.

4 Be[d] angry, and do not sin.
Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in the Lord.

6 There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
7 You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Today’s Message: DCLM Daily Manna Today 4th March 2021 Devotional

The godly is a cherished and priceless possession of the Lord. He searches the earth for such a soul; and when discovered, is set apart for His service and fellowship. A Christian writer noted that “knowing and loving God is our greatest privilege and being known and loved is God’s greatest pleasure”. Indeed, God wants unbroken fellowship with His chosen children, like Adam and Eve, whom He set apart in the Garden of Eden for constant communion.

The godly must maintain a perpetual attitude of fellowship with God for this is the heartbeat of the Almighty and His greatest expectation. We must develop the attitude of constant conversation with our heavenly Father. This we do by praying “without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We must worship Him with pure heart and motive; honour Him and meditate upon His word regularly as a means of obedience and submission to do His will. God shares His secrets with the godly. He revealed His redemptive plan for Israel to Abraham who committed himself to passing his faith down to his posterity (Genesis 18:19).

Indeed, “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant” (Psalm 25:14). Believers should cultivate the enviable attitude of constant conversation with God through prayer. With an acceptable life, he or she is sure to receive manifold portions from Him and an assurance of a place in His kingdom.

Thought for Today: Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence Him.
