Bayelsa Deputy Gov. gives free face masks, frowns at Police charging defaulters N20,000

Bayelsa state deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo today Wednesday, handed over free face masks to Land and Marine Transport, and Market Unions in Yenagoa to help fight the spread of Coronavirus in Bayelsa state.

Recall that Bayelsa state government on Monday makes it compulsory for residents of the state to wear face mask while appearing in public places. This came as the increase of positive cases in the state. As at Tuesday’s update of the COVID-19 by NCDC, Bayelsa registered new 5 cases and the total cases reached 318.

While handing over the masks to the Unions, Mr Ewhrudjakpo frowned at the way Police in Yenagoa is tackling the issue of defualters as they are charging N20,000. He maintained that Government didn’t such directive.

Arc Ere Efeke the permanent Secretary of Ministry of Transport, took to his Facebook to share this information.

He wrote;

‘The DGov of Bayelsa State giving out free face masks to land and Marine transport, and Market Unions in Yenagoa today. He frowned at the Police squad charging defaulters the sum of N20,000 He stated that Government did not give such Directive.’
