Group Kicks Against Dickson’s Plan to Lure Former President Jonathan into Campaigning for Diri/Lawrence Ticket
There is an alleged rumour making the rounds in Bayelsa state about how the People’s Democratic Party through Governor Henry Seriaki Dickson, has set aside the sum of N1.5 billion to convince former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to join him in presenting the party’s flag to Sen. Douye Diri and his running mate Sen Lawrence at the party’s official flag-off ceremony in Yenagoa the state capital.
According to a source within the restoration caucus who leaked the information to a group called Bayelsa State Solidarity Movement for Good Governance, BSSMGG, the governor of the state has already spent billions of Bayelsa State funds to lobby PDP governors and former ministers who are close to the former President to persuade him to attending the party’s official flag-off campaign. It is believed that the PDP is hoping to make a statement with the appearance of the former President at the event.
The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Solidarity Movement for Good Governance, BSSMGG Chief Preye Thomas who described the former President as a man of integrity and is currently the most vibrant and recognised former president in Africa has called on Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to focus on his international assignments which he has been doing very well.
“As an international figure, we urge the former president to please stay away from political rallies be it for the PDP or the APC in the state”, said the chairman.
Governor Dickson should have used these billions to pay off teachers’ arrears and outstanding salaries rather than spending it on unproductive ventures at a time when our children are out of school because of the strike action by teachers in the state.
There is a rumoured plan by aggrieved youths to stone the former president during the campaign rally if he appears for the said rally and we as an organization will not fold our hands and watch anybody or political party bring our political icon forward for public ridicule.
A lot of Bayelsans are obviously not happy with governor Dickson who according to our source within the the restoration caucus has been boasting about he single handedly handpicked the Douye Diri/Lawrence ticket, and has also in his usual stride boasted that he will make sure the former president graces the party flag off and declare his support for the party and his choice of candidate. As a group, we will not like a situation where PDP governors and close friends of Dr Goodluck Jonathan will persuade our hero who we are hopeful of becoming the next UN Secretary-General become an object of political mockery in the state. Our father is now a global leader and is above Bayelsa politics even though he is a father to all.
Those of you who are trying to convince the former president to indulge in this degrading act should desist from it. If the love you have for him is genuine you wouldn’t have worked against him in his reelection bid in 2015. The former president should know that these people are not his friends but his enemies in disguise, the memories of the evil role they played against you in 2015 is still fresh in our memories.
Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a man of integrity and isn’t a selfish leader who will be coerced with a paltry sum of 1.5 billion at the detriment of his followers and Bayelsans who hold him in very high esteem.
