DCLM Daily Manna 13 October 2018 - Bearing The Right Fruit

DCLM Daily Manna 13 October 2018 Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi

Topic: Bearing The Right Fruit

Text: Luke 3:1-14 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham“ (Luke 3:8).

MESSAGE:

The coming of John the Baptist as the forerunner of Jesus Christ marked the end of about four hundred years of “famine” of the word of God as prophesied (Amos 8:11). Isaiah, over seven hundred years before, had also prophesied that John would come “to prepare… the way of the LORD…” (Isaiah 40:3).

And as he came with the word, hungry masses trooped out to hear his message of repentance and baptism. He preached that they must repent and bring forth “fruits worthy of repentance” as a token of genuine faith. A mere lip confession of being the biological seeds of Abraham was not enough guarantee against “the axe” of judgement that was already laid on the root of the trees to cut down anyone who failed to bear the right kind of fruit. DCLM Daily Manna 13 October 2018

Salvation experience, which begins with genuine repentance and renunciation of sin and faith in the finished work of Christ, marks the beginning of a true Christian life. Genuine salvation produces a positive change of character – an internal transformation that metamorphoses into a visible and undeniable godly lifestyle. A born-again Christian thus becomes “a new creature” after old things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Without doubt, genuine repentance produces genuine salvation. Unfortunately, many modern-day preachers have excluded repentance from sin in their sermon, in what they call “positive gospel”. All the prophets, the apostles, emphasised repentance as a precondition for God’s forgiveness. “Repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out…” (Acts 3:19). You can do this by first acknowledging that you are a sinner, confessing yours sins and praying and asking God for forgiveness. He forgives the penitent sinner.

Thought For The Day: The fruits, not leaves, make the difference.

TOPIC: Just Recompense

TEXT: ISAIAH 24:1-23

KEY VERSE: “The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant”  – (Isaiah 24:5).

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 18 December 2018 MESSAGE: God is just. He rewards piety, faithfulness, dedication, commitment and righteousness. In His faithfulness, He does not spare the unrepentant sinner, the unrighteous, the wicked and all who repay kindness with evil and wickedness.

God’s indignation and fearful judgment is always towards the ungrateful: the rich, poor, freemen, bondmen, educated, illiterate, religious and irreligious “because they have transgressed the laws, changed ordinance and broken the everlasting covenant”. Every unrighteousness is sin. God is not a respecter of person or nation. “The wicked shall be turned into hell; and all the nations that forget God” (Psalms 9:17).

God’s severe judgment is hanging on the neck of all who defy Him in spite of His goodness, mercies and loving kindness to them. Surely, He is good to all and in His magnanimity, He has endowed both man and land with rich deposit of His goodness. All those who therefore dare God and use what He has given to them – material wealth, mineral resources, intellect, wisdom, knowledge, positions – in ways that desecrate His name and promote ungodliness are courting His fierce judgment.

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 18 December 2018 – Just Recompense written by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

Every human being is a free moral agent. God gave all liberty to use whatever He has given to us, including our life, in the way we choose. Our response to God’s unquantifiable kindness will determine the kind of reward we should expect from Him now and in eternity. However, God’s anger and indignation can be avoided by turning from all wicked ways, repenting from all known sins and turning to God through Jesus Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What a man decides ultimately determines his destiny.

TOPIC: The Power Of Faith

TEXT: MARK 9:14-29

KEY VERSE: “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth”
(Mark 9:23).

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 17 December 2018 MESSAGE:

A small child named Thomas A. Edison came home with a letter from school. The content of the letter was: “Your son is mentally deficient; we cannot let him attend our school anymore. He is expelled”. Edison’s mother’s eyes welled with tears as she said aloud positively, “Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him and doesn’t have good enough teachers to train him…” The mother took up the tutoring of Thomas effectively and successfully until she fell ill and passed on. Many years after Edison’s mother died, he became one of the greatest inventors of the century. Edison was a mentally deficient child, whose mother turned him into the genius of the century. Faith produces something from nothing. DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 17 December 2018

In our passage, Jesus upbraided His disciples for their inability to heal an epileptic child brought to them. He described their failure as resulting from their lack of faith. Faith in God’s promises and faithfulness changes situations and circumstances.

Nothing is impossible for a man or woman of faith. Whoever exercises faith always dwells in the realm of the supernatural. He visualises God’s unlimited supply, unquestionable authority over circumstances, unrestrained power over nature and His control over all issues. If prayer is the “staff” with which a Christian walks with God, then faith is the “key” to open God’s treasure-store.

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 17 December 2018 – The Power of Faith written by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi

Without faith, we cannot attain to His presence or obtain anything from Him. How rich are you in faith? Build up your faith and experience victory and rest on all sides.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Through faith, you can both save yourself and others.
