Men referred to as Gender Champions from different walks of life had staged a Road Walk Against Gender Based Violence in Bayelsa State.
The Road Walk which was organised by the Bayelsa State Branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA had in attendance top government officials, CBOs, Faith based organisations, medical and media practitioners in the state.
The walk commenced at the popular Ekeki Motor Park and terminated at Peace Park.
In a press statement presented after the walk, Dise Ogbise-Erhisere, Chairperson noted the statistics of rape, violence against women and children is alarming, disheartening and threatening to the survival of our children and women, thus the need for this Roadwalk against Gender Based violence in the state.
According to the statement ‘our state is a small one, we cannot afford to be in the news for the wrong reasons, it is time to wake up and say No to all forms of gender based violence against women and children.’
Dignitaries at the Roadwalk include; Hon. Peter Akpe – Leader, Bayelsa State House of Assembly; Hon. Ingo Iwowari-Gold – Chairman, House Committee on Gender and Social Development; Hon. Collins Cocodia – Commissioner, Ministry of Youth Development, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, Commissioner for Information and Orientation represented by Chris Odi and other relevant stakeholders.
Others are Preye Agedah – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Commissioner of Police, Dr. Okoye – Secretary, Nigeria Medical Association, Bayelsa State Branch, Mr. Olaoluyemi – General Manager, NTA, Mr. Joseph Kunde – represented the General Manager, AIT and Queen Freda Fred – Face of Bayelsa/FIDA Ambassador.
