So far so good for the Dream Team VI as the Samson Siasia-led team have proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are contenders for the Rio Olympic gold medal. As expected, the U-23 team has toppled their opponents following brilliant displays especially in their first two matches owing to the presence of key players in the squad. Here are the five most outstanding players in the group stage 1.

Mikel Obi: The Chelsea midfielder has been responsible for connected passes into the final third of the attack and retaining possession in the key areas of the field.

Mikel impressed Nigerians by his attempts on goal in all the matches played, an attribute which he rarely exhibit for both club and country at top flight level.

Sadiq Umar: A new discovery into the youth side have cemented his place in the starting XI owing to his eye-catching performances for the Dream Team during the first round of the tournament.

Oghenekaro Etebo: He has been the stand out performer so far at the Games scoring four of the five goals in the Japan match and a man of the match display against Sweden, scouts will be lurking for the player’s signature.
