Schools were shutdown today in Bayelsa state this morning as parents trooped in to pick their wards.

It was gathered that Military personnel were going round schools for immunisation vaccines administered on pupils. As it has been rumoured weeks back that Nigerian Army will be taking a step ahead of their programme in the ongoing of the Operation Python Dance II in the South East and Operation Crocodile Smile in the South South to immunise Children against diseases.

In a swift reaction the Bayelsa state government ordered that no immunisation should administer in any public school unless it is cleared and directed by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health respectively. Read below;

The Press Statement by the Government reads: “The Bayelsa State government is by this announcement calling on all Federal or State agencies that carry out immunization around the state to ensure that they officially take permission from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health before embarking on any exercise in any of the state public school premises.
All principals, Vice Principals and head teachers are by this announcement expected to demand for a letter of permit from the above-mentioned ministries before any immunization exercise is carried out.”
Signed:
Hon. Obuebite Jonathan
Commissioner For Education, Bayelsa State.
