There are fears of a “major disaster” as Hurricane Harvey is set to slam into the coast of Texas.

After growing in size and ferocity in the Gulf of Mexico over the past few days, the monster storm is due to make landfall on Friday night near the town of Corpus Christi.

It will hit with winds of 130mph and drop up to 40 inches of rain in some areas.

Coupled with a 12ft storm surge, many parts of Texas are expected to experience devastating flooding.

Thousands have been ordered to evacuate and steer clear of the biggest storm to hit the US since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
