Residents in 23 of Grenfell Tower’s 129 apartments did not survive the blaze as police say 80 dead

Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said it will be many months until the full death toll is known

Police have confirmed that residents in 23 of Grenfell Tower’s 129 apartments did not survive the deadly blaze.

Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Fiona McCormack said around 80 people are dead or missing presumed dead after the tragic tower block fire in north Kensington.

She added that it will be many months until the full death toll is known.

Officers have now managed to make contact with at least one resident from each of the 106 flats in the block.

But that still leaves the occupants of 23 homes unaccounted for.

Police also confirmed that 60 companies are helping with the investigation into the fire but are not being investigated themselves.
