UK weather: Armyswings to help people flee their homes as snow sweeps across Britain

Britain has plunged into a three day deep freeze as snow sweeps across the country.

Polar air from Canada ushered in a combination of high winds, tides and heavy rain in the east of the country forced the Met Office to issue dozens of flood warnings.

An entire village in Essex was due to be evacuated and flights were cancelled as blizzard conditions swept Britain.

The Environment Agency warned communities in Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex they are particularly at risk from gale force winds combining with high tides to create large waves that could carry dangerous debris including rocks.

The Army sent 100 troops to Skegness in Lincolnshire to help start evacuation homes in low-lying areas. Read more
