Will Young sensationally quit Strictly Come Dancing last night – despite planning to use the show to help his music career comeback.

The Pop Idol star, who was slammed by Simon Cowell after beating Gareth Gates on the show 14 years ago, was dropped by Island Records after just one album, and he’s now pulled out of Strictly citing “personal reasons”.

He emerged today looking down in the dumps as he took his two dogs for a solo walk in the park in London, but told Chris Evans on Radio 2 that he’s “dandy” and the situation was very undramatic.

It was revealed back in August that he’d been dumped by the label, but he continued to perform at concerts around the country and was hoping to kick-start his career by appearing on the BBC talent show.

The Sun reported that it was a surprising decision for the pair to part ways after his sixth album, 85 per cent Proof, was a chart success as it hit the number one spot.

A source told the publication at the time: “The deal with Island came to a natural end and he’s self-released his new Summer Covers EP.
